A judge dropped one of four charges against Baltimore police Lt. Brian Rice in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray, ruling prosecutors had not presented enough evidence to prove second-degree assault after 3 days of testimony.

South Africa: police linked to 640 civilian deaths in 2015

Civilian deaths at the hands of police are in the spotlight in South Africa‚ and not just the United States. In one year there were 396 deaths as a result of South African police action and 244 deaths in custody.

Briefing : Preventing deaths and serious incidents in police custody

On 23 July 2015 the Home Secretary announced an independent review into deaths and serious incidents in police custody. The review is scheduled to be published this summer.
