One week until 27 January - Holocaust Memorial Day 2014

With one week until 27 January, Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2014, it's not too late for you to do something to remember the forced journeys made during the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution and the subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

From a poster display to a candle lighting, from a group discussion to reading a book or watching a film - it's easy to mark HMD.  Explore the wealth of free resources available to you on our website.

Watch and share our short film for HMD 2014  Journeys.  The film highlights the forced journeys undertaken during the Holocaust and subsequent genocides, contrasting them with the journeys we have the freedom of choice to make.  It reminds us that we are shaped by the journeys we make.  Many survivors choose to share their journeys and experiences with us today and help us to develop our understanding of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.  Why not consider screening the film as part of your HMD activity?

Watch the film, tell us how you will take a step for HMD 2014, and pledge to remember the journey of a Holocaust or genocide survivor.

Once you've decided what you'll do to mark the day, don't forget to let us know.

If you're looking to attend an event then you can find out more about the local activities taking place in your region by visiting our website.

Order your poster set by tomorrow afternoon to receive them in the post for events taking place on or before 27 January.  Email enquiries@hmd.org.uk or 020 7785 7029.

Or download your activity pack from our website.

Help us to measure the impact of Holocaust Memorial Day

What impact has HMD had on you?

Do you know more or feel differently about the Holocaust and subsequent genocides since taking part in, or organising, an HMD activity?

We're working with researchers at Sheffield Hallam University to carry out a longitudinal study of the impact of Holocaust Memorial Day.

Whether you're organising your own activity or taking part in an activity we'd like to hear from you. Find out more about our impact study and how you can be involved.

The History Boys star Samuel Barnett makes a pledge for HMD 2014

Actor Samuel Barnett, best known for his part as Posner in The History Boys, has made an online pledge and recorded a poem for Holocaust Memorial Day 2014.

Listen to Samuel's recording of The Butterfly, which was written by Pavel Friedmann in 1942 while he was imprisoned at the Theresienstadt concentration camp in Czechoslovakia.

Samuel has taken a step by 'recording a poem The Butterfly about life in a ghetto and by tweeting about the HMD website so that more people will know about it.
