A man was shot late Tuesday night in controversial circumstances in a now almost one-month old unrest that began against a hike in electricity tariffs. Randy Tello of 73 Wismar Extension was shot to his face and remains a patient at the Mackenzie Hospital. The 23-year old man is a former boxer who fought in a number of Caribbean countries including Barbados, St Kitts and Nevis and St.Maarten. His mother Rocklyn Tello told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) that she was told that her son was returning home when police stopped him. He ran and they ran behind, shooting. He was also badly beaten in his back with firearms. She said he had just returned a bicycle to someone when the incident occurred on the One Mile Wismar Public Road in front of Bobby Noel’s Store. Police, however, said the man was wanted in connection with a hail of bricks and bottles that was hurled at a police patrol earlier Tuesday night. While Mackenzie remains relatively calm, police and soldiers have been facing some resistance in the removal of obstructions in Wismar. |
