St. John’s Antigua- The 5.1 magnitude earthquake which rattled Anguilla was felt here around rush hour yesterday afternoon.

“You felt that? I was standing in St John’s and I felt the ground shaking, I was so frightened. It was long,” one newsroom caller reported.

Other callers reported feeling the ground shaking as far as Big Creek, Herberts and St John’s, Freemans Village and Liberta.

Meteorologist Cecil Matthews of the Antigua & Barbuda Metrological Services reported that at about 5:29 pm a tremor occurred eight kilometres or five miles east south east of Anguilla and 120 kilo metre or 63 miles north, north west of St Kitts and Nevis or 167 kilometres or 104 miles off Antigua & Barbuda.

According to the United States Geological Survey and the National Earthquake Information Centre, the depth of the quake was 54.9 miles.

No damage was reported in any of the islands where the quake was felt.
