SENTENCED: Dr Conrad Murray received four years in jail for involuntary manslaughter
CONRAD MURRAY has been sentenced to four years in jail.
Michael Jackson's personal doctor, who was found guilty of the star's involuntary manslaughter on November 7, was given the maximum sentence at an LA court today (Nov 29).
Though Murray was given the maximum sentence, it is believed that he will not spend his time in prison, but instead serve his sentence in a LA County jail.
Judge Michael Pastor ordered 58-year-old to pay an 'appropriate restitution' to the estate and to Jackson's three children Prince Michael, 14, Paris Katherine, 13 and Michael 'Blanket' Jackson, 9.
After almost six weeks, 49 witnesses and two days of deliberations, the 12-person-jury, which consisted of seven men and five women, ruled that Murray had displayed “unintended reckless or criminal negligence,” which contributed to the star's death on June 25, 2009.
"Dr Murray engaged in a recurring, continuous pattern of deceit and lies," judge Michael Pastor said during sentencing today.
"Dr Murray abandoned his patient", he added.
American gossip site TMZ claimed that Dr Murray's mother had previously sent a letter to judge Michael Pastor, asking him for his 'compassion and leniency in giving him probation or community service'.
"He has never been in trouble with the law before and I am barely standing, scared and worried sick about him being incarcerated," she allegedly wrote.
"Judge Pastor, Conrad, is my son and as a mother I must say I know him inside out. He is sorry for what happened to Michael and had no intent towards him," she added before continuing: "I humbly beg for your heart felt consideration of everything I have said about Conrad, and ask for your compassion and leniency in giving him probation or community service."
Jackson's family are yet to respond to the sentencing.
