Latest response from Hackney Council regarding proposed closure of Centerprise Trust

(November 04, 2011)
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Lola Akindoyin Date: 4 November 2011 09:51 Subject: Statement from Hackney Council To: centerprisetrustltd@gmail.com Dear Mr Amevor Please see the statement below from Hackney Council as discussed last night: A Hackney Council spokesperson said: "Centerprise had been paying £10 per week rent on a double shop-front property on a busy high street, which is not a rent level that could continue for any organisation. Despite attempts from the Council, Centerprise has failed to adequately engage with us over several years regarding a new lease. This has resulted in the Council initiating legal proceedings. We are committed to continuing to pursue legal action but will not be taking the case to court next Friday (11 Nov). This will give the opportunity for further discussion between the Council and Centerprise." Notes to Editors Hackney Council served a legal notice on Centerprise a year ago that would bring their current lease to an end this summer (June 2011). The Council offered Centerprise a new lease last November (2010) and despite initial engagement, and several attempts by the Council, they did not come back to the Council regarding taking up a new lease. It is important for both the Council as owner of the property and any occupier to have a lease in place with an agreed rent. Hackney Council has two lettings policies - one for commercial organisations and one for voluntary and community sector organisations. The Council recently developed the voluntary and community sector organisations lettings policy which gives organisations that meet the relevant criteria reduced rents. Kind regards.
