JAMAICANS: ALIENS IN GHANA?

(May 01, 2011)

It looks like the Jamaican community in Ghana will have an ‘honorary ‘Jamaican consul forced on us by the middle of this year, giving us official ‘alien’ status in our Motherland.

This will seriously damage our chances of a successful outcome in very serious matters that concern all people of African descent wanting to live back in Africa, AND WE ASK ALL OF YOU TO HELP US TO GET THIS POSTPONED until we get a conclusion to:

1. The on-going review of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, in which the Pan-African Diasporan Coalition of Ghana has made representations on our behalf to the Ghana government on citizenship, land ownership and other matters

2. The on-going review of the application of the reciprocal visa waiver between Ghana and a number of Caribbean islands, including Jamaica

3. The review of the current Right of Abode and Citizenship legislation in Ghana

We have asked the Jamaican High Commissioner in Nigeria to wait, and let these important reviews come to a conclusion, but our wishes are being ignored in the strange rush to force this consul on us. They still want to bring the consul here despite fierce opposition, no proper consultation and under very suspicious circumstances.

Even if you think this doesn’t affect you, it does and will affect people close to you so-

PLEASE SHARE AND CONTACT The  Jamaican High Commissioner in Nigeria and ask him to postpone the consul matter:

AND

The Jamaican government directly requesting that they postpone the setting up of this consul until pending matters have been resolved and until proper official consultation has been provided
