The battles that count aren't the ones for gold medals.

The struggles within yourself—the invisible, inevitable battles inside all of us—that's where it's at.
Let's NOT waste the opportunites we have...

What is SAID v What IS

What stems in the minds of many of us black people orginates since slavery and needs to be understood and changed.

Black people are commonly portrayed as sexually exploitable, stupid, uneducated, dirty, ignorant, violent and basically as lesser individuals.

The slave master would buy and sell black women for bearing children and whatever other dirty fantasies

or needs their owners would demand.

Today many black people commonly and willingly portray themselves as sexual objects, uneducated etc, but the reality is that we have accomplished a great deal that not only goes un-noticed and unspoken about, but kept hidden from our children so they have no understanding of the possiblities outside what Western Society says.

KICKIN' IT WITH THE KINKS
documentary is now ONLINE!

KICKIN' IT WITH THE KINKS is now live!
KICKIN' IT WITH THE KINKS is now live!

In Kickin' it with the Kinks, Mundia explores the complexities of haircare among women and especially among women of African descent. While many have opted to be part of the growing trend of 'going natural,' others continue to expend enormous amounts of time, energy and money to achieve unnaturally long flowy hair.

The history of afro-textured hair is re-visited, norms derived from the same explored and the dangers of chemical products unveiled. Mundia who is a student in Manchester decided to explore the theme further to answer her own questions on wearing natural hair. She documents the reality of how much time, effort and money women dedicate to their hair and also meets with specialists who are able to give insightful points from the history of afro textured hair and the ever booming hair product and hair extension industries. This journey enables her to have insights and give her the strength to embrace her own beauty.

Our children have watched numerous cartoons and seen images all centered around the western free flowing, hair but have you taken a moment to show them the following, before you put relaxers, hot combs and weaves in their hair?

We no longer come together in the name of community or common goals, its now everyman for himself - Back in the days coming up to the Notting Hill & Brixton uprising otherwise known as the riots, many blacks came together from different post codes, different areas all for a common goal and hope for equal treatment etc, and now we fights amongst our own communities over whose right it is to be where??

As a people it must be said that in many respects we are lost... Now I love my culture, my rythm, our style and our beats, BUT IS THIS REALLY WHAT A CHILDRENS PARTY HAS TURNED INTO???

THE CUTE, INNOCENCE is soooo far gone in these children, OUR children, and its not their fault. We the parents are to blame.

We need to be proud of ourselves, our culture and our skin colour... I watched this self hating black gril with pity, because so many are lost and we need to reach out to them
